The Majority Of People Visiting London Take A Ride On The London Eye
London, the capital city of England and the UK, has many tourist attractions, many of which are amongst the most popular in the country. Throughout history London has been an immensely popular vacation destination and much of this interest is due to the grandness of the historical buildings and the unique culture. While a noticeable number of the visitor attractions found in London are historically interesting, such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament, there are various others that are relatively new, such as the Millennium Bridge, London Aquarium, Millenium Dome, and the more popular of these, the London Eye.
The London Eye is not unfrequently referred to as the Millennium Wheel as it was constructed in nineteen ninety nine to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium. It was officially opened by the U.K. P.M., Mr. Tony Blair, on the evening of 31st of December but, alarmingly, there was a number of technical safety issues therefore it was not opened to the public until March 2000. Standing 135 meters above London the London Eye has become an unmistakable, and greatly visible London landmark.
Way back in eighteen eighty five, in Earl’s Court, there was the Great Wheel of London, which was a giant Ferris Wheel which was able to accommodate around sixteen hundred tourists a go. Sadly it was demolished in 1907 but today London has something similar in the London Eye. Although it is not the largest Ferris wheel in the world it can easily state that it is the worlds largest cantilever observation tower!
Although the London Eye isn’t able to transport as much tourists as could the Great Wheel of London, it can manage to carry 25 tourists in each of its 32 capsules. In contrast to a Ferris wheel, on the London Eye, you are allowed to get up and walk about in a capsule however you might find that you want to sit down as it takes around half an hour for it to finish a full revolution.
With as much as three and a half tourists flying on the London Eye every year it is, today, the most visited tourist attraction which charges an entrance fee across London and the U.K.. The most common reason why tourists choose to enjoy a trip on the London Eye is to witness for themselves the astounding panoramas afforded by it. During a revolution of the Eye you are able to see for as far as 4 miles. At this enviable standfpoint you are able to take in such well known landmarks as Westminster Abbey, Hampton Court Palace, Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s. of course these are just a small number as you are also able to see the finest possible views of most of the landmarks of London. In fact Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament appear as though they are directly underneath.
The London Eye has been the scene of many a marriage proposal and a number of weddings, which can be booked as a package. When booking a flight it is also possible to book other things such as educational trips for small groups of students of all ages.
If if you are only staying in London for a weekend break the London Eye can be a real time saver because it is possible to take in nearly all of the important London landmarks during the thiry minute flight which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride). Luckily it is relatively easy to find hotel near the London Eye which will save you more time. If you are on a tight budget you will be relieved to know that it is also possible to book cheap London hotels without too many hassles
