Barcelona, You Should Visit

When you want to spend your vacation in a hotel in Barcelona (hotel a Barcellona) going for an exhibition is one of the best touristy activities you can do. Barcelona is a lively, buzzing and cultural city. Catalonia also has dozens of different types of exhibitions that cater to a wider audience.

There are different works from the “photo-interpretations” of Lewis Hune of which 20 different contemporary photographers were commissioned directly by the MACBA, Barcelona’s contemporary art museum. One of the interesting photographic exhibitions concerns photos and his role in the modern world. The exposition is divided into two different parts. The first demonstrates the historical path of the modern photo documentary (from 1850 to 1980), based on debates and evidence from that time.

There are different photos of Italian and Spanish artists from the 30’s and the following years. The second part is presented in a more specific way with the main theme being Barcelona and its particular evolution during the last century, starting from 1888, which was the World Fira year, to 2004 and the Culture Forum year. Xavier Basiana, Lothar Baumgarten, Patrick Faigenbaum, Hans-Peter Feldmann, David Goldblatt, William Klein, Manolo Laguillo, Ana Muller, Marc Pataut, Xavier Ribas, Andrea Robbins & Max Becher are some of the artists expected to be on show. The exhibition takes place in the MACBA, Plaça dels Angels 1.

One particular exhibition will take place in Barcelona until the 20th January, and is based on Horror Vacui. In the art world, this is the term you refer to when you fear empty spaces.

The goal of exhibition is to represent the oppression and disorder of Victorian times. It collects more than 150 works (with dimension inferior to 60×60) of more than 20 artists. The strange idea of the creators of the exhibition is that the visitor can buy all the paintings from the exhibition, leaving empty spaces so that in some way they produce this empty sensation that claims to be the main theme of exposition. Very poetic I must say.

This exhibition is held in the Galeria Montcada, in Montcada 20, and the entrance won’t cost you a thing.

To discover all the other exhibitions and exposition of the city, we suggest that you stay as many days as possible in order to really get a comprehensive view of everything the city has to offer. There are many choices: from classical hotel rooms (alberghi Barcellona) to last minute apartments (appartamenti economici Barcellona), all of which have their own special something to offer.
